Umbria
Almost all specimens on this page are from a place in Umbria called Colle Fabbri, a hamlet consisting of just a few houses. During the construction of one of those houses, microminerals were discovered by chance in the natural rock. And very unusual ones at that: plutonic minerals in a non-volcanic area. This may be called an anomaly - a situation where something is found that doesn't really belong there. As far as is known, though apparently no one knows for sure, a magma pipe was once forced up to the surface - at least, that is how Lorenzo, my local guide, without whom I never would have found the right spot, explained it to me in layman's terms when we were there in the summer of 2026.
